Colic Remedies – 6 Soothing Solutions

Are you singing the baby colic blues? Believe me, a parent who is dealing with the crying associated with this condition is probably feeling a little like they are losing their mind. It is a very stressful situation for you and your baby to be in.

Living with a baby suffering from colic is no picnic. You probably feel incompetent, depressed, and maybe even downright angry when all your attempts to soothe your baby seem to have no effect. But you are not the first parent to have experienced this type of behavior. Nor will you be the last.

Did you know that experts think one out of every five babies born experience colic? According to the CDC, in the U.S. alone, about 4 million babies are born each year.  That means there are about 800,000 babies suffering from colic each year in the U.S. That’s a lot of screaming babies and upset parents!

Since no known cure exists for these outbursts, the best thing you can do is arm yourself with things that have worked in the past for other parents. Here at Colic Baby Bootcamp, we want to give you the latest information on all products and techniques parent-approved colic remedies to help soothe your baby and YOU! We want to get your baby some peace, and you some quiet.

Six Soothing Solutions for Baby Colic

White Noise:

Sounds crazy but the sound of a vacuum cleaner or hair dryer running stops crying pretty quick. You can download these sounds from iTunes. We suggest Colic Sweep Vacuum Cleaner White Noise.

Gripe Water:

Your baby is griping, right? Why not try gripe water!  This particular colic remedy is homeopathic. The solutions usually contain natural ingredients know to relieve gas and indigestion. We recommend Colic Calm Gripe Water which you can purchase at CVS or order online.

Changing Baby’s Diet:

Whether you are sent home from the hospital with baby formula with a lot of iron, or you are breastfeeding, what your baby is eating could be putting him in pain. Changing the formula to something gentler like Nestle Good Start, or changing your diet if you are breastfeeding can make a HUGE difference.

Swaddling:

Or what we like to call the burrito wrap. Being tightly confined in a swaddling blanket reminds your baby of being back in the room. Some parents may not know how to swaddle. Never fear, we have instructions! (Due to the recent information indicating Swaddling is associated with SIDS, we advise you are very careful about this method).

Infant Massage:

This technique does wonders for relieving baby gas and creates a bond with your baby at the same time.  We highly recommend the DVD, titles (funnily enough) Baby Fart Aerobics.

Get Moving:

Go for a car ride; put baby in a stroller and go for a walk, swing, rock, whatever you can do to get baby on the move. The movement is calming and helps stop the crying.
